the day the earth stood still

September 5, 2008 at 4:57 pm (universe, world)

september 10, 2008 should hail a landmark day for science and it quite literally make the earth (and all time for that matter) stand still.  while i continue to ramble on with my notions of star trek glory i will get down to the real matter at hand.  the large hadron collider (lhc) will be up and operational over near france.  this basically means (in my limited scientific knowledge) that scientists will be able to better understand how the universe might have first started.  proponents against the lhc have attempted to induce panic amongst the ignorant by making statements about black holes tearing the earth apart and having the entire world converted to strange matter. eh, if it happens we won’t be around to complain, will we?  might as well hit the switch and see what happens.  who knows, it could be the first ever time machine… you never know…

a maze-ing algorithim

September 5, 2008 at 4:48 pm (code)

well, i have been working on a simple maze game on the side and i am having some issue with generating a maze that is complex, but yet still has a path.  currently, i am using a north/south/west/east method for each piece.  this is where i assign a 1 or 0 to each direction that indicates how each piece works.  for example, if you have a top-left corner piece, that would be 0, 1, 0, 1 in my array.  this piece would then match up with any piece that has a 1 for the north or west directions.  very simple way to determine pathing, but my problem lies in creating an intelligent route.  currently i am employing a north/west approach to build the path.  i check the row that has been already built (north) and the piece directly to the left of the piece i am working on (west).  this ensures that a path will be created that connects.  the complexity of the puzzle seems to naturally occur through this semi-random selection.  my main problem is that sometimes the algorithim randomly cuts the path off and will not allow anyone to continue through the maze.  i am still puzzled (pun anyone?) by this, but hope to have a simple browser version working soon.  as i always say, we shall see…

responsibility

August 28, 2008 at 3:41 pm (world, writing)

let me address this congregation
about my frustration
that my generation
had no dedication
to our final destination
and this needs explanation
that there is no expectation
or even a quick hesitation
with this lack of integration
and there is no preparation
or even motivation
to save this nation

so I hope this revelation
will change this situation
but until a transformation
I leave this invitation
to form a realization
that this isolation
is actually exploitation
and despite this obfuscation
there is an obligation
for prescribed innovation
not persistent imitation
so have no trepidation
we’ll reverse this regulation
and achieve our vindication

a lost contact found

August 27, 2008 at 9:44 am (life)

well, after far too much deliberation i decided to contact mike again.  i probably overreacted at the time but i was beyond pissed.  anyway, i figured i would need to be the one to contact him (since i left it pretty empty) and now we are talking again which is a good step.  like an elephant though, i will never forget and friendship works solely on trust, so i am not sure where this puts me.  either way it will be nice to be able to talk shop to someone again, but the distance is pretty great so i don’t honestly know how that will work.  to quote myself, time will tell…

math 261 – intro day

August 26, 2008 at 1:10 pm (school)

well as is customary for all intro math classes, we covered two sections already on the first day.  there is another good looking girl in the class (a few for that matter), but this one really stuck with me.  she reminds me of someone i met back in freshman year but i don’t remember where or how.  it is the craziest feeling of deja vu that i got when i looked at her.  hopefully she didn’t notice me gawking at all or hopefully she did and she fb stalked me and is reading this post right now (if she is, you are cute and we should go out sometime).  i hope this class goes well for i need to undo the past mistakes.  only time will tell i guess…
